ABOUT TEKNO GROUP

One company for the systems that keep a building running

Tekno Group works across Toronto and the GTA, from new installation and upgrades through ongoing service.

WHO WE ARE

We are a contractor, not a broker — the people who assess your building are the people who do the work.

That sounds like a small distinction. In practice it decides how a project goes. There is no layer between the person who priced the job and the person holding the tools, so nothing is lost in translation and nobody can point at somebody else when a detail turns out to be harder than it looked.

It also means we are careful about what we take on. We would rather tell a client early that something is not straightforward than discover it halfway through and hand them a change order.

OUR STORY

Where the company comes from

Tekno Group operates as part of Techno Build Ltd., with building-systems experience dating to 1990. Commercial work came first; the residential side grew out of it rather than the other way round.

What has not changed is the kind of job we are called for: an existing building, a constraint someone has already run into, and a need for the answer to be right the first time. Very little of our work is new construction on an empty site. Most of it is threading modern requirements through buildings that were finished decades ago.

HOW WE THINK

The thinking behind the work

Three habits shape almost every decision we make on site.

01

Understand the building before proposing anything

Existing conditions decide what is possible. We would rather spend an afternoon establishing what is actually installed — and what it can carry — than price a scope that unravels the moment someone opens a ceiling.

02

Assume the building has to keep working

Almost nothing we touch is switched off for our convenience. Planning around occupants, operations and access is not an inconvenience bolted onto the job; it is the shape of the job from the first conversation.

03

Leave something the next person can work with

Installations outlive the people who commissioned them. Labelling, records and sensible layout cost very little on the day and save a great deal the first time somebody has to change or extend what we left behind.

IN THE REAL WORLD

Most of what we do happens in buildings that never close

Offices that still have staff in them. Retail units mid-trade. Apartment buildings where residents expect heat tonight. Occupied buildings are not a special case for us — they are the normal case, and they are what our methods are built around.

  • Access negotiated around the people who use the space, not around our schedule.
  • Shutdowns kept short, planned, and communicated before they happen.
  • Existing systems kept running while their replacements go in.
  • Work staged so a building is never left in an unusable state overnight.
TORONTO & THE GTA

A company that knows this city’s building stock

Working in one region for this long teaches you things that do not transfer. Which era of building hides what behind its walls. How long a permit or a utility coordination realistically takes here. Which property managers need what documentation, and when.

We are not trying to cover the province. Staying close to Toronto and the GTA is what lets us turn up when we say we will, and know the building before we arrive.

WHAT YOU CAN CHECK

We would rather be verifiable than impressive

There is a lot of unverifiable language in this industry. We have tried to keep it off this website. What follows is what we will put in writing before you commit to work.

  • Company documentation — tell us what your approval process requires and we will confirm exactly what we can provide.
  • References — where a past client agrees to act as one, we will put you in touch directly.
  • Scope in writing — what is included, what is not, and what the building has to provide.
  • One accountable party — no subcontracted gap between assessment and delivery.
